Conference concert Elisabeth Hetherington & Paolo Gorini
After a matinee performance in the first weekend of November Music, soprano and artist-in-residence Elisabeth Hetherington and composer and piano virtuoso Paolo Gorini will perform the piece Night (e)scape during New Music Conference. It is a new work by Gorini, which can be heard as – according to the November Music website – “an obscure journey through the night, a moment when the sounds of the day fade away and you can really listen”.
During November Music, Elisabeth Hetherington will testify to her quality and versatility in various concerts. As winner of the Dutch Classical Talent Award in 2020, she is praised in both baroque circles and in the contemporary music circuit for her beautiful, crystal-clear timbre. Elisabeth has played opera roles with companies such as Holland Opera, Holland Baroque and Opera Zuid. With her duo Serenissima she has already performed at the Festival Oude Muziek and the Ravenna Festival. She graduated cum laude from the Masters of Historical Performance at the Conservatory of Amsterdam, where she regularly works as a guest lecturer.
Paolo Gorini graduated cum laude from the Luca Marenzio Conservatory in Brescia and obtained a master’s degree in chamber music from the Giuseppe Verdi Conservatory in Milan. He obtained his second master’s degree (piano with a focus on new music) at the Conservatory of Amsterdam, where he studied with Ralph van Raat, among others. From 2017 to 2019 he was a member of Nieuw Ensemble. In 2019 he formed the group Ensemble Resilience, an eclectic collective of six musicians active in the contemporary field: four performers and two composers specialised in computer music design. Furthermore he has worked with film composer and pianist Hauschka, the ensemble Sentieri Selvaggi and Duo Ebano with clarinetist Marco Danesi (Storioni Toonzaal Prize 2017).
