Bert Palinckx

Bert started his professional musical career in 1980 as a double bassist. In 1981 he won the Meervaart Jazz Prize with Het Werken Trio. An LP on Willem Breuker’s BV Haast label and many concerts, including for radio and TV, follow. In 1983, together with his brother Jacq, he founded the Palinckx group. He has been playing at a large number of international and national festivals and stages for over 20 years. The group releases two LPs and 10 CDs. In the early 1990s he also formed the Big Band Nieuwe Muziek, with which he played newly composed and improvised music.

In 1985, Bert is one of the founders of Jazzpodium Paradox in Tilburg. He is a member of the very first program council and a board member from 1990 to 2000. In 1999 he became artistic director of the November Music festival in ‘s-Hertogenbosch. Under his leadership, the festival has grown into the most important festival for new music in the Netherlands. He will stop on January 1, 2025 after 26 editions.

In addition, Bert was and is a member of various committees and juries, including three times at the DAAD Berlin, twice at the Composer Laureate, the Performing Arts Fund and the municipality of Utrecht. He is currently chairman of Theater De Nieuwe Vorst in Tilburg.
