We Are Here, Involve Us!
Ensembles and programmers still make too little use of the fact that a contemporary composer is available to provide context and explanation for a work to be performed. This is despite the considerable added value it offers, not only for the composer’s visibility, but also for the audience. Explanations about the history of the work’s creation and the composer’s artistic motivations, provided by the composer themselves rather than in a leaflet, deepen the listener’s experience – especially in the case of a new piece. Composers and a programmer who consciously pursue this approach talk about their experiences.
